John and I have safely made it to New Zealand! For going half way across the world it was a relatively easy trip. The largest snaffu we had was before we even left the states. We tried to non-rev to LAX and to our exasperation and stress we find the night before that all Delta flights were overbooked, meaning we had to buy tickets at the last minute. In the end we made out just fine, though $300 poorer. However, once we actually got the airport it was smooth sailing. We stayed over in LA in a hotel for a few hours to rest and shower and it was back to the airport for our 11:45 p.m. flight! John dressed up for the occasion, as it was "National Suit Up Day"--if any of you have seen the sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" you will understand the reference. Here is a picture of John with his spiffy suit:
and here he is with his lovely shower cap beret:
unfortunately, he didn't wear it on the flight.
The flight went very well, as did going through immigration and customs. Flying in was a beautiful sight, though I didn't have a window seat so I wasn't able to take a picture--though I'm sure I will be posting plenty soon.
For the moment we are checked in at our hostel in Auckland, run by a lovely woman who is very helpful. Hopefully we will be able to buy a car in the next few days and make our way to Wellington!
More to come soon!
Love it!!! Keep the news coming!! by the way: Alexander just got engaged to Grace....
